How do the new ICF competencies and PCC markers compare to the old?

Posted on: 04 Feb 2021

As a professional coach, you need to stay abreast of significant changes in the field of coaching. One of those changes is the updating of the ICF Core Competencies, which the ICF announced last year, and which will progressively come more into use throughout this year.

To help you better understand these changes, ReciproCoach has colour-coded the old and updated core competencies in the table below. This provides a summary in which you can see how the old core competencies map across to the new ones. You will see that some of the old competencies map straight across to the new ones clearly, however, you will also notice some different font colours which indicate where an old competency maps across to more than one updated competency.

You can also see a list of what we have identified as the key similarities, differences and improvements on our blog.

In fact, together with members of the ReciproCoach group mentoring team, ReciproCoach has produced new documents that colour-code the similarities and highlight the new additions for each of the competencies and the markers. All participants and observers of ReciproCoach mentoring sessions and rounds in 2021 will have access to these new learning resources. If you’d like a preview, you can see how the old and new listening competencies compare at our blog here and how the old and new listening markers compare here.

ReciproCoach’s mission is to be your lifelong companion for professional and personal growth as a coach, whether you’re a student coach or a master coach. We hope that these mapping documents help keep you up-to-date and current.
