What’s the easiest way to get transcripts from my session recordings? (2023 update)

Posted on: 07 Jun 2023

Gone are the days when the only way to transcribe a session recording was to painstakingly do it yourselves, or pay another human to do it for you.

Now, thanks to massive advances in the quality of AI transcription, transcribing a session a recording is painless and quick!

As good as AI is becoming, and it’s still good practice to review AI transcipts. While AI transcript accuracy is continually improving, the quality of your transcript will be affected by speech, accents, recording quality, the number of speakers and how much cross-talk there is and in almost all cases, some corrections will be necessary.  Nevertheless, even with the inaccuracies, correcting some words here and there is certainly easier than typing a transcript from scratch.

We recommend RaeNotes for transcribing coaching session recordings (sign up here and both ReciproCoach and you will get some free transcription minutes). Not only does it generate very accurate transcriptions, but it also provides in-built assessment tools using the ICF Core Competencies, PCC Markers and ACC/MCC BARS. It’s easy to skip back and forth in the recording and follow along in the transcript, and check off the assessment markers as you go. RaeNotes is also very affordable.

RaeNotes is so good, that we’re reticent to even mention any other alternatives. However, just to be democratic, we will say that in the past we have recommended Otter.ai.

If you have experience using any of the above, or any better transcription services that are not mentioned here, please leave a comment to let us know.
