Exploring client values in coaching
Values are an important part of coaching and an essential part of the self-knowledge that coaching clients generate through the process of coaching.
Defined as what someone considers important or what someone cares about, values are fundamental and core in the coaching process and, very often, are also linked to a notion of purpose.

Coaches listen for and explore through values through questioning. This serves to trigger client reflection on and discovery of what their values are, as well as the values by which they are currently living. Once identified, the coaching process often leads to reflection on the degree to which clients are living by and honouring their values.
Exploring clients’ values occurs through listening, questioning and also through exercises used at the outset of coaching.
To what degree are you listening for and exploring your clients’ values in your coaching sessions?
