Avoiding common coaching pitfalls

Posted on: 14 Apr 2022

Last year we ran a poll to gauge how often coaches feel like they really nail it in coaching sessions. According to this poll around 50% of coaches feel like they nail it often, while less than 10% of coaches feel like they nail it always (you can contribute to or see the results of the poll here). Unfortunately, too many coaches fall into common coaching pitfalls too often.

To support you in avoiding common coaching pitfalls and consistently nailing it in your coaching sessions, ReciproCoach has partnered with Marion Franklin, MCC and author of The HeART of Laser-Focused Coaching.

Of the many coaching books available, we want to ensure you do not miss this book. In fact, we want to make sure you not only read it, but also do it via our Laser-Focused Coach Training Round, so that you learn to:

  1. know exactly what to listen for in every session
  2. quickly identify what’s really going on
  3. avoid getting seduced by the story
  4. ask questions that get right to the heart of the matter
  5. have the client do all of the summary
  6. know how to create the shift and what to do afterwards
  7. recognize the client’s underlying pattern and know how to address it

This combined training and peer coaching round will ensure you never again find yourself halfway through a session without clear direction, having been seduced by your client’s story without even being aware of it. By mastering Laser-Focused Coaching techniques, you’ll hit upon the real issue early in your session, and wrap up on time with a sense of completion for both your client and yourself.

The Laser-Focused Coach Training Round will laser your attention on the most impactful sections of the book (available for purchase separately here – not included in the peer coaching round). Then, through six 30-minute sessions with your coach and client respectively, as well as structured debriefing and reflection on each experience, you’ll work through the seven skill areas identified above. You’ll get more than 6 solid hours of applying and reflecting on Laser-Focused Coaching in a safe peer coaching environment, before you try it in your wider coaching practice.

You also have the opportunity to join a separate Laser-Focused Coaching group mentoring session with Marion (not included in the peer coaching round, but available for separate registration here) to hear Marion’s own demo of Laser Focused coaching, to ask your questions and to hear Marion’s candid, direct and refreshing feedback on live coaching.

You can find more information about the Laser-Focused Coach Training Round and read testimonials from the last two years’ past participants here. If you already know you want to laser-focus your coaching, you can register directly here. If you participated in a previous Laser-Focused Coach Training Round, and want to refresh and hone your laser-focused coaching skills, we also encourage you to join again.

Mark my words, this experience will impact your coaching. It definitely shifted some of my more limited coaching paradigms. Not only is the combination of direct training and peer coaching an extremely effective learning strategy, Marion’s Laser-Focused Coaching techniques teach you to go beyond familiar coaching assumptions to bypass the common coaching pitfalls that so many coaches fall into.

See you on the other side!
