While most people know dyslexia as a reading disorder, few people — including coaches — are aware that dyslexia also affects adults’ performance at work, including their memory, ability to organize, manage their time, plan and adapt to change. Diagnosed or not, dyslexia can create a barrier to performance and also has an impact on coaching.

This issue of Coaching Research in Practice explains the presentation of dyslexia in adults and reviews a study that assessed the impact of coaching among dyslexic coachees. It highlights important signposts that coaches should be aware of in order to recognise dyslexic traits among their clients and reveals findings that demonstrate the extent to which coaching is effective in improving the work performance of adults affected by dyslexia.
