How to accelerate increased self-awareness?

Posted on: 14 Nov 2019

All coaches know the role of self-awareness in both the process and outcomes of coaching. In fact, we could go as far as to say that with the necessary amount of self-awareness around a desired change, we don’t actually have to intentionally do anything to create that change, rather it just emerges spontaneously following the awareness itself.

This issue of Coaching Research in Practice examines one method of accelerating executive coaching clients’ self-awareness. It explains the process of shadow coaching, outlining its benefits and key success factors. Finally, it makes some suggestions for implementing shadow coaching in any coaching context, not just executive coaching, even where traditional shadow coaching may not seem possible.
